site update....in a few weeks

Well, it's time to make some changes as i do have some time.  I want to upgrade this site from the current version of phpbb2 to phpbb3.
i was looking around the system and deleted a lot of users that have not even loged back in for over 76 days and or zero posts at all.

i have three options here.  (i'm shooting for option #1 by the way)
1.  just upgrade this forum and hope all the conversion goes well.  if so, then no one has to reregsiter and all just keeps on ticking.
2.  open a new forum site and keep this one up and link the data base to this one.  more complicated and maybe not be as clean.
3.  install a new forum and slowly have people reregister to the new one.  

anyways, i welcome your thoughts /comments .. constructive one though.  

please don't bullshit in this post.

i'll be changing the main site as well soon.

I think re-registering would be silly, seems like we have to register every time our forums go down. But whatever is easier and you think it's best.

I would

Build a HTML/Flash site and incorporate several pages...maybe one on each chapter
Then add a standard phpbb forms on the back end

i have done alot of IntergraMod and Nuke sites in the past year for friends that have gaming clans and I perfer NUKE......but its always better to go away from a TEMPLATE and build a HTML/Flash site...it looks way more impressive....Then you code the forms on the backend so that Users can't bookmark it, when they try to it takes them to a blank page....what this does is forces them to use the main URL which helps promote the site on all the SEARCH engines as well as gets traffic to the entire site... I will bet that 90% of the users have the forums URL bookmarked and dont even see the HOME page anymore....

i like your option 1 james... i don't want to have to go to the main page every time... cuz the front page requires me to wait for the flash intro to load... i prefer to just go to the page where i log in and just go about my business... but i don't run the site... so (in cho's words) "DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE!!!"

nick is 100% correct... i'm on a government connection with shitty bandwidth... therefore... i like being able to just go straight to the login page....
