A motorcyclist was killed when he tried to cut between two big rig trucks on the Artesia Freeway in Carson, but struck one of them when the space closed, police said today.
Edgar William Dykes, 24, of Fullerton was killed about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes near Central Avenue, authorities said.
"It looks like the motorcyclist was trying to split in between the two trucks and looks like the space cushion closed and looks like he ended up hitting the rear of one of the trucks," California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Kim said.
Dykes was thrown from his motorcycle and was run over by one of the trucks.
He died at the scene.
No one else was hurt.
Coroner's officials said Dykes was on active duty in the military.
